Robot is named CEO of a $10 billion Chinese metaverse company

‘Mrs. Tang Yu’ is an AI-powered virtual humanoid robot appointed as the rotating CEO of a Chinese Metverse giant, Fujian NetDragon Websoft, a subsidiary of NetDragon Websoft. Ms. Tang Yu is the first non-human entity ever appointed to a leadership position and will take on the company’s organization and efficiency departments.

NetDragon Websoft is a Chinese company that creates mobile apps and also operates multiplayer online games. The company claims that the appointment of the AI-powered robot will help them boost applications more efficiently. Dr. Dejian Liu, President of NetDragon said;

Tang Yu’s appointment highlights the company’s “AI + management” strategy and represents a major step for the company towards becoming a “metaverse organization.” We believe that AI is the future of business management, and our appointment of Ms. Tang Yu represents our commitment to truly embrace the use of AI to transform the way we operate our business and ultimately of account, drive our future strategic growth”

Everyone’s initial response is what could be predicted, “the beginning of the end is here”. Many have said that James Cameron’s epic sci-fi ‘Terminator’ came to life, where a hostile AI called the Skynet takes over humanity. It was one of the first media portrayals of AI that reflected skepticism around this technology.

On the other hand, the company claims that it is for the good of humanity instead of the opposite that the new CEO will supposedly aim to improve the speed, quality of operations and optimize workflows. The robot CEO will also act as a real-time data hub powered by analytical tools that will enable logical day-to-day decision-making. The new CEO will use artificial intelligence technology in the HR department and provide a better working environment and justified incentives for employees to make their jobs easier rather than ripping them off.

Dr. Dejian Liu said in this regard that;

“In addition, Tang Yu should play a vital role in developing talent and ensuring a fair and efficient workplace for all employees,”

The robot CEO will boost the process flow, improve the quality of work tasks and improve the execution speed, the company said. He added that the robot will help the company make rational decisions in daily operations and enable a more effective risk management system.

This is obviously an experimental and marketing move on the part of the company and it has again been successful as the company is currently in most of the press articles. In terms of the actual efficiency of the robot, it is also more likely to succeed and this would open up a whole new world for the AI industry. The AI industry is already experiencing tremendous growth, and according to Gartner forecasts, it will reach $62 billion in 2022 alone, a 21.3% increase over last year.
