Freeview fans can once again tune in to two popular channels that were taken down just a few months ago. At the end of June 2022, BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD were both removed from Freeview as part of the major COM7 shake-up which took some services offline to make way for new 5G mobile technology.
This change to the Freeview signal affected over a dozen channels, which were removed or switched to a different channel number.
And for anyone who missed two of the removed channels – BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD – they will be delighted to hear that these services have recently made a surprise return to Freeview.
As confirmed by the BBC, BBC Four HD is now available on channel 106, with programming starting at 7pm each evening.
While CBeebies HD will be streaming throughout the day, you can tune in to all family viewing on Freeview channel 106.
Unfortunately, BBC News HD – which disappeared from Freeview in June and is one of Beeb’s most popular channels – has not made a comeback.
Freeview fans should tune into BBC News SD instead, or head to the BBC News iPlayer in HD on their TVs.
BBC News HD along with BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD were removed from the Freeview service at the end of June this year. But unlike BBC News HD, BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD weren’t supposed to be dropped from the list.
Originally, BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD were due to get increased coverage at the end of June and become available for more people to watch than ever before. However, at the last minute the BBC announced that these two channels would be temporarily removed from Freeview.
The BBC said those channels would return “soon”, but no firm date was given for their return.
These channels have now returned to Freeview recently following engineering work which saw the channels removed from the service’s list for months.
If you’re wondering, here’s a list of all the BBC HD channels available on Freeview right now…
101 – BBC One HD, 102 – BBC Two HD, 106 – BBC Four HD, 204 – CBBC HD, 205 – Cbeebies HD
In Scotland, Freeview fans can also tune in to BBC Scotland HD on channel 108, while channel 109 is for BBC Three HD, but this is not available in Scotland or Wales.
